So, what is product marketing? That’s probably what brought you here and what we plan on focusing on in this blog. In fact, if you plug “product marketing” into the Google Keyword Tool, the term “what is product marketing” is far and away the most popular term associated with the search. So it looks like there’s a lot of confusion around the term – which is why I’ve started this blog.
Here’s a framework for the answer, but first an introduction. My name is Diego Lomanto and I’ve worked in software/web development for nearly 15 years with a focus on enterprise software product marketing for the last 5 years. I currently work at OpTier, a leader in the Application Performance Management space, as Director of Product Marketing. Before that I worked for Verint Systems in their Speech Analytics group for 5 years. If you want to know more about me click here to see my LinkedIn Profile.
As a kid I just loved everything about computers, software and technology. As an adult, the fact that I get to wake up every day and work in this industry is exciting. Don’t get me wrong, enterprise software can be mundane at times. Every job has its ups and downs, and there are days I wish I was off doing something else. But all in all, it’s a great time to be in technology marketing.
This blog will focus specifically on enterprise software product marketing. Product marketing is one of the most interesting, underrated, and misunderstood roles in technology. We strive to be the place you can come to in order to learn more. We’ll be featuring tips, definitions, strategies, interviews resources, tools and opinions on product marketing. In fact, I already have the first 55 posts planned (I like to plan, obviously!) so we’re going to be very comprehensive in our coverage. As we start to post topics, I’d really love to hear from you and build a community for the people who are in this field. Don’t be shy, please comment on posts and contact me if you are interested in contributing a post. The more the merrier.
I hope you enjoy what’s coming!
